As chance would have it, one of my sisters moved to northern California the same weekend John and I moved to Reno which meant we would be closer in distance.  When she lived in Seattle and I lived in Las Vegas, the occasions during which we visited each other were rare.  Truthfully, I don't remember the last time I saw her.  Now that our homes are a few hours drive from each others', John's bike race this past Saturday was the perfect opportunity for us to reunite.

So she drove to meet us in Livermore, CA at the course where John's road race was in progress with a portable ice chest full of food in tow.  Not just any food, mind you.  Home cooked Asian food -- for us to enjoy for lunch!!

We ended up dining on the patio of Bruno's Italian Cuisine on First Street.  That area has to be Livermore's restaurant row.  There appears to be every cuisine you can think of, one right next to the other, with outdoor seating along the tree-lined street.  It was the perfect afternoon to get together.
As timing would have it, the road race wrapped up just in time for supper.  After 50 miles of racing through rolling hills, John placed 2nd out of 70+ riders so we definitely needed to stick around to see him on the podium.  Last weekend, he took 1st place and 2nd place in the El Dorado Town Center Criterium in Folsom, CA (but unfortunately I wasn't there to see it).  He earned enough points from this weekend's race to upgrade to the Men's Category 3.

Here are more photos from the Wente Vineyards Classic Road Race on Saturday, April 28th.
John and I stayed the night in Livermore. We did not know what to expect of the race venue but ended up having a great time. The city will be hosting their first stage finish of the 2012 Amgen Tour Of California and so we hope to return to Livermore. This time not to compete but to enjoy being spectators of the race.
