Drugs and Intervention

Tonight we are watching a television series on A&E called Intervention where they cover people dependent on drugs to the point where it interferes with their personal life and an intervention is necessary to change the course of their downward spiraling path.

My husband doesn't like watching the shows for very long; it makes him sick to his stomach but tonight's episode beckons him because the person who will be featured is someone he once knew.

Back in my husband's days of junior cycling, he competed with Chad Gerlach, pictured here (riding behind my husband in the pink jersey and shorts) in the Junior National Championship, circa 1990. Chad went on to pro cycling and rode for the same team as Lance Armstrong on the U.S. Postal Service team which eventually became the well-known Discovery Team.

Chad went from a top U.S. pro cyclist to living on the streets, dependent to drugs. There's an article on him on VeloNews.com.

Tonight as we watch Intervention, we are hopeful that we'll hear of his recovery.
