St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at Auld Dubliner

So last night, my husband and I met up with some friends at the Auld Dubliner Irish pub at the Lake Lake Vegas Resort. I'm pictured here with Andrea; we work for the same place and she's my kickass workout partner at the gym.
As soon as we had arrived at the pub, we didn't waste any time chugging down some Irish Car Bomb, a drink I've never had before. It's basically Bailey's Irish Creme served in a shot glass that is then dropped into another glass of Guinness (like a Sake Bomb). The result is a drink that tastes like chocolate milk, very smooth but not as thick as chocolate milk. Yum...
A band, the Wild Celts, had been performing outside for the day's event in the courtyard of the MonteLago Village but they moved inside when the evening came. They were great at capturing the audience with dance contests for free shots.
When drinking beer, it is necessary to have pub food so John had a Reuben sandwich and then we had chicken wings. I don't remember much about eating...only about drinking. I remember drinking another drink I haven't had before, a Washington Apple, and I think it has Crown Royal whiskey, sour apple pucker schnapps, cranberry juice and ... a splash of soda. Very, very tasty and went down easy. Too easy.
Smithwicks and Jameson reps were doing giveaways all night with samples of beer, beads hats, etc. They came around to our table with shots of whiskey and these neat little dice shot glasses that lit up and flashed. I generally don't like whiskey--it provokes my gag reflex but I took a shot (it wasn't bad at all). By the late night, I was not so much myself ... LOL!!
Everyone had a great time dancing, drinking, and just catching up with each other. We had planned to leave around 10 p.m. but that turned to 1 a.m. because we were having too much fun. There are more photos in my photo set on Flickr.com.
I feel like St. Paddies has already past (wishful thinking from my hangover this morning perhaps) but the official day of celebration is actually tomorrow. Green food, green drinks and--I didn't know that the Chicago River is dyed green each year--with what?! Have a happy and safe Saint Patrick's Day tomorrow!

The Irish Car Bomb is my favorite shot of all time. If you ever get a chance to try the Irish Beer known as Kilkenny (not Killians!) go for it. That stuff is fantastic!

Yeah, they dye the river green every year to match the lake....

@Dano: I haven't tried Kilkenny yet but you betcha it's on my list!

@Dom: so...the lake is green? Always green? What do they dye the river with? Does it also dye the living things in it?

Lake looks blue , but if you're up on the pier or by the Shedd aquarium the water looks greenish up close. Least it did last I looked....

They use some kind of non-toxic dye, and I'm not sure if it dyes the fish or not. Ah those crazy Chicagoland Irish...... drunken river-dyeing bastards.....
