In the Mail

Finally got the Christmas cards in the mail. There's not a whole lot but getting to this point was still quite a bit of work writing on the cards, sticking return labels, stamps, and address labels--and LICKING the flaps! Addressing the envelopes reminded me that I married into a large family. My husband has tons of aunts, uncles, first cousins, and first cousins once removed through both parents. We'll be seeing half of them for Christmas in less then ten days!

On the other hand, my side of the family is not very big. They all died in the Vietnam War -- just kidding. There are my parents, three older sisters, me, my younger brother, a nephew, and niece. The rest of my living relatives live in Laos. Even with only three sisters, I sometimes find it hard to remember my sisters' married names. All three are married now and I always have to stop and think uh...what is her married name since we all had the same last name at one time. Remembering my brother's last name is a no brainer ... LOL!

I have always wondered about the greeting part, Dear [insert name]. If the card is going to a couple, I've always addressed it Dear so and so (their first names) but then once they have children, they become Dear the Smiths. I don't know if that is correct but I think it beats Dear so, so, so, so, and so. It's not like we don't remember their names but I think they should be addressed as a family. I don't know... All I know is we got the cards out (FINALLY) and what matters is that our family knows that we are thinking of them during the holidays.

Oh ... that is just the first batch. The second batch has to go out to our dear friends (my husband doesn't know yet! He practically developed Christmas Carditis after the first run. Poor guy!).
