I'm Dreaming of a Green Christmas

A while back a post by Corrin about a greener Christmas got my husband and I thinking about how we make a difference this year and perhaps start a new family tradition.

Instead of purchasing a cut tree this year we got a potted Mondell Pine for our Christmas tree. When the holidays are over, we will plant it in our yard and this tree will always be part of our household.
After my family left town this past Sunday, we brought the pine tree back from the home improvement store and dawned it with lights, ornaments, and sparkly garland. Its young branches are drooping from the weight of the decor but the Mondell Pine is a very hardy and fast growing tree. Tolerant of smog, most soil conditions and temperature extremes from 20 degrees F to 115 degrees F, the Mondell Pine, is an excellent desert tree and will do just fine in the Las Vegas area.
This was Elgy's first Christmas so she was in absolute awe over the lights and her newfound friend, the Christmas tree.
Both my husband and I feel good about choosing a live tree that we can later plant in our yard and decorate year after year which will be the start of a new family tradition.
