WTH Channel 8?!

While watching t.v. last night, a saw a preview from Channel 8 about the motorcycle accident that shut down the freeway last Friday, the man who died as a result of that (Double D), and an interview with his family about the generosity of Double D.

So my husband and I stayed up to watch the 11 o'clock news, a stretch for us since we like to retire early. But losing little sleep was worth hearing about the man that my husband worked with; he was such a nice guy.

When the news came on, that segment on Double D was all but 20 seconds (at the most) and all I heard was that the riders gathered at the Eastern Harley-Henderson store yesterday before following each other to the funeral service. That's it. Nothing about Double D or how he lived or what really happened last Friday.

I certainly felt ripped off. Misled by the preview and then left hanging by the paltry spotlight on his story. The station spent minutes covering a story about how a local teen's injury from football may not allow him to play the sport again. But the teen didn't die and (luckily) he can still move his limbs and be able to do normal things within a year--just not play football. Unfortunate thing to have happen to the young teen but not tragic. He will still live.

I just felt that Double D deserved a little more than the hacked segment for lack of time and people should know about the person that he was. I e-mailed the News Online Manager of Channel 8 and hopefully they will post a video of the full broadcast.

I received a response to my e-mail to Channel 8 regarding the airing of the story on Double D. They were very kind to provide a copy of the script so I could catch what I missed:

Unfortunately, that is the only story that was done. Here is a copy of the script:

FAMILY AND FRIENDS PAID TRIBUTE TONIGHT.. TO A MAN WHO GAVE A LOT TO OUR COMMUNITY.

A MOTORCYCLE MEMORIAL RUN WAS HELD IN MEMORY OF 57 YEAR OLD DANIEL DAVID (JUH-ROESH) JAROSZ. HE WAS A RIDER- SAFETY- INSTRUCTOR..

THE HENDERSON MAN DIED IN AN ACCIDENT ON U-S 95 LAST WEEK.. YOU MAY REMEMBER THE ACCIDENT CAUSE A CHAOTIC BACKUP OF CARS.

TONIGHT RIDERS TOOK OFF FROM THE HARLEY SHOP AT EASTERN AND KAREN AND DROVE TOGETHER TO THE MEMORIAL SERVICE NEAR DESERT INN AND SANDHILL.

R.I.P. Double D. The Motorcycle Memorial Run was a wonderful tribute to you.

It's really sad that they aknowledge he gave a lot to his community, but failed to actually do a better story on him since all we hear about is OJ and his accomplice.
